An Exciting Time at the Cabin This Week!!!

I got this brilliant idea that I wanted to tile the counter top in the cabin. Got all of the stuff and then was told by the man that he didn't want anything to do with this project to phoned Mike at Men of Faith and he came to my rescue. First we took off the old counter, sink and hand pump.

Next came the goop and the laying of the tile. No, I don't want some simple design, "Let's do triangles!!!" she bravely said and then watched Mike do all of the work!!! I was using my buggy to get back and forth to the cabin and Mike backed his truck down!!! Yikes!!!!

We are almost finished. The tile is now grouted and sealed and there is going to be a lovely piece of oak around the edge. The sink is a dinky deal but will give more counter space. What a lovely new addition to the cabin this counter top is!!!

The snow is knee high outside of the cabin. We had to run a extension cords down to the cabin for Mike to use all of his tools and we have decided to leave it for the winter. There will be electricity in the cabin this winter, 2016/17 if you choose to use it.

Winter in The Rustic Cabin....

I would like to take a moment to remind our guests that to come to the cabin in the winter you must drive a 4x4 vehicle, all wheel drive or/and a car with excellent winter tires. All weather tires will NOT get you back up our driveway to leave and we doubt you wish to stay till spring!!! Getting in down the hill is no problem.....it is getting out that has been a problem for some who think wrongly, "My car will make it up." Oh no it won't!!!

Now, there will be a spot at the top of the driveway, just off of the road on the left for you to pull into should you wisely decide not to drive down the driveway. You will still have to have good winter tires to get up the incline to the road. Should you have a newer car with anti-skid, you may need to disengage that feature to make it either up the driveway or out of the upper parking spot.

To rent in the winter you must also take full responsibility to leave the cabin clean and tidy as we expect you to find it.  That means you shake all of the rugs and sweep the floors. You must fill the wood boxes inside and on the porch. Put pink juice down the drain.

Winter in the cabin is awesome and we hope you come and have a memorable experience!!!! As I always say, "For the "right" people, the cabin is a fabulous destination." Should that be you, please email me at vassheekey@bell.net  .

Today at The Rustic Cabin....

Well, check this out!!! It is like a highway going to the cabin now!!!  No more roots sticking up. Just smooth driving...... Oh so nice!!!! You will love it!!!

What a thrill to have our swimming hole back. Wow!!! It is lovely. Should you wish to pile up the rocks around the swimming hole, that will be just fine!!!! Thank you......

Looking up stream you can see the water level which is so much better than last year. Good swimming, good fishing, generally, just a really good time!!!!!!! Come and share the experience.....

Wow!!! A Hand Pump in the Cabin!!!

This is so exciting!!! There is now running water in the cabin!!! It takes two hands to pump it right now but my expectation is that it will get easier with more use. You may want to bring drinking water with you. We will get this water tested in the next few weeks and I'm thinking it will probably be fine to drink. We will let you know. Hope this won't take the Rustic out of the Cabin for you!!!

I went to the river today and should have taken a picture. We have our swimming hole back which we lost last year to high water. It just looks beautiful with many rocks showing and the water rushing by. Such a relaxing place to be!!!!!

Remember - rustic - no hydro or running water, oil lamps for light and we leave water in containers for you at the cabin. Privacy, quiet, relaxing and healing. If you are looking for a different experience, come and enjoy!!!! $110 a night for one or two people. Minimum of two nights. Contact Val by phone at 705 636-1679 or email vassheekey@bell.net   .

Look What I Found!!!!

I saw this in an antique store, actually it is an antique mall, here in Titusville and just had to have it for the cabin. We are heading home at the end of the month and then finding that special place of honour for it in the cabin!!!!

We had someone do some measures on the bridge last week to try and keep it from going down river in the spring thaw. Many of you know that last year the river was a lot higher than normal so when it froze at the beginning of winter it was already getting dangerously close to the bottom of the bridge structure. The cabin has received more than normal snow this winter and the thaw is starting. Going to be interesting at The Rustic Cabin this spring!!!!!

Many winter enthusiasts have enjoyed the cabin throughout the winter and we look forward to greeting you in the spring. Every season is unique and special at The Rustic Cabin. Come and experience the hush.........
